Judge Anthony C. “Tony” Kyriakopoulos is a graduate of St. Hilary elementary school, Lane Tech College Prep High School, The University of Illinois Chicago, and University of Illinois Chicago Law School (formerly John Marshall Law School).
After a brief stint in private practice, Judge Kyriakopoulos joined the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office in the fall of 1990 and spent the next two decades working to assure that justice was served. His assignments included the Narcotics Prosecutions Bureau, the Felony Review Unit, the Preliminary Hearings Unit, and the Felony Trial Division.
In February 2010, the Supreme Court of Illinois appointed Judge Kyriakopoulos as a Circuit Judge of Cook County, and he has since been elected to the judiciary and retained by Cook County voters. He is currently assigned to the Mortgage Foreclosure/Mechanic’s Lien Section of the Chancery Division and presides over one of only three Mechanic’s Lien courtrooms in the State of Illinois. In his over twelve years of service on the bench, Judge Kyriakopoulos has always strived to treat everyone who appears before him with dignity and respect. He has also mentored countless law students and young lawyers.
Judge Kyriakopoulos is an active member and supporter of many legal and civic organizations. Most notably, he is a Director of the Hellenic Bar Association; he is an officer and founding member of Hellenic Legal Assistance Services (Hel.LAS), the pro-bono legal aid clinic created by the HBA, the Hellenic Foundation, and Chicago Volunteer Legal Services; he is a Director and founding member of the Hellenic Judges Association, also known as The Order of Themis; and he is a Director and the Assistant Treasurer for the Hellenic Foundation.
Judge Kyriakopoulos, his wife, Eva, and their two children are longtime residents of Chicago’s north side. They are parishioners of the St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church of Chicago, where Judge Kyriakopoulos has served on the Parish Council for over twenty years in many different capacities.
